Minute Enemies!

There are 80,000 species of flies on our planet, 20,000 of them live in Costa Rica. Among the thousands of species that exist, the most common in Costa Rican homes is the house fly. (musca domestica).

Flies feed on contaminated substances such as carcasses and garbage and therefore they can be dangerous to humans. What is more, through out history, more people have died from contamination due to flies than have died in wars.

It is a fact that flies transmit illnesses such as skin infections, dysentery, typhoid fever, polio, and some intestinal parasites. Flies are the main source of transmitting cholera, and other infectious diarrhea, when they leave harmful microorganisms on food and human skin.

These insects also diminish cattle populations and are harmful to crops. Nevertheless, it may be our fault that so many flies exist. As French author Martin Monestier says in his book Flies are Humans Worst Enemies "when man is most destructive to the environment he lives in, flies prosper proportionately, the more miserable the living conditions of humans, the more the fly population is strengthened."

In this place you can see more than 30 terrariums, with coleopterons, arachnids, insects and butterflies.

With guides highly capacitated for the tours. There are also 2 platforms to see the gulf and the mountains of Monteverde.
