Wildlife Refuge

Ecological Sanctuary is a wildlife refuge administrated by a Costarrican family that offers walks of short and long trails, through a forest with beautiful viewpoints, two big waterfalls, coffee and banana plantations and the opportunity to find many birds.

Ecological Sanctuary was born in 1992 with the idea of protecting 30 hectares (75 acres) of forest located in the pacific zone of Monteverde. In the past it was a farm with some coffee and banana plantations. For having a primary and secondary forest in transition it has a countless biodiversity in plants and animals. This was the base for making several trails and like that to live the opportunity of watching the wildlife.

Nowadays, the activity of the farm is the Eco-tourism, which is supported with the money from the visitor's entrance sale for maintaining the place and projects of conservation, with the aim to preserve and regenerate the forest and live in harmony with the nature.

Located 750 meters south from the Rafael Arguedas School in Cerro Plano.
